CreekWatch
CreekWatch monitors the creeks in our community by having citizen scientists collect samples from creeks/outfalls around Pigeon Lake. These samples are sent to a lab for testing for water chemistry and pollutants.
To collect creek samples
Join PLWA staff to take samples from our 8 sample sites once a month during the summer.
Once you sign up, volunteers will receive training resources, supplies, and guidance.
Scheduled sampling dates:
June 17th, 2022 - PLWA staff joined board member Bob Gibbs to collect water samples from 8 creeks at Pigeon Lake. The samples have been sent to a lab for testing. We will be observing various water quality indicators such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
July 9th, 2022 - PLWA staff collected water samples from the beach and creek at Zeiner Provincial Park in addition to the 8 creeks tested last time in response to the fecal coliforms water advisory going out on July 1st.
August 13th, 2022 - Samples have been collected from 8 creeks as well as Zeiner Creek and Zeiner Beach. This month all creeks had lower flow rates.
