1986 - Mulhurst Bay Lagoon

The Mulhurst Bay Lagoon was constructed to serve firstly, the area of Mulhurst Bay as a water treatment facility for the sewage from the area. Many of the Summer Villages joined in the years following construction with a notable expansion in 2014 for the South Pigeon Lake sewage line. Observations during the expansion are detailed below with major concerns on road quality and effect on soil quality due to the expansion process.

“A look at the Mulhurst Bay Sewage Lagoon and some construction going on nearby, from above. This might be of interest to those in the area. You know it exists but you can't see it from the road so you have no idea what's actually there. Some might be surprised to see how big the facility really is. It seems that seagulls are more than content pretending the settling ponds are a lake. There are more of them here than at the county dump.”

The expansion to the Mulhurst Bay Lagoon was completed in 2014 to accomodate additional Summer Villages pumping to this facility.

When the lagoon was first implemented 30+ years ago it was for the hamlet of Mulhurst Bay only, however it has now been expanded to encompass most of the Summer Villages on Pigeon Lake. Extensive damage was observed on Range Road 280 north from Secondary 616 during the installation of the South Pigeon Lake sewage line in August & September of 2014. Consequently, the heavy construction traffic and fracking/drilling process used in the line installation has produced boils in the road and in a local owners farm yard. In September of 2014, the drilling fluid migrated up through the hard packed road in front of their residence. The land owners have lived on the noted road since 1972, and have never experienced the road conditions as in the last six years, with more damage emerging each year. In the spring of 2014, the drilling mud was now coming up to surface in numerous locations. Another observation was the strong acid odour coming from the lagoon when there is a strong northwest wind.
