2021-12-24 - Extreme Cold Temperatures

An extreme cold warning was issued for the entirety of Alberta, which lasted between December 24th, 2021-January 10th, 2022.

Wind chills during that time were around -40 C in the city of Edmonton and closer to -45 C in outlying areas.

This means frostbite is possible in as little as 5-10 minutes on exposed skin. This also greatly affected wildlife in the area that are exposed to the elements too long without sufficient protection from the wind. Wind chill values caused the temperatures to go into the -50 C range.
