1880-05-01 - Dominion Land Surveying
“The Dominion Land Act of 1872 provided for free homesteads of 160 acres for settlers….The prairies and parkland were being divided by invisible lines of the Dominion Land Surveyors, who set out from Stony Plain in February 1880, and surveyed the 5th Meridian. On May First, 1880, the survey line was carried along the 5th Meridian through ‘Mulhurst Bay',’ across the ice on Pigeon Lake, followed by their horses, wagons and equipment. Within the next few years townships, sections and quarter sections were pegged and recorded for future settlements.”
