1956 - Swimming Program at Argentia

“The swimming programe at Argentia was established in 1956, by a group of cottagers headed by Betty Manning. Each years after weeks of instruction a Red Cross examiner would come to the lake to conduct tests. So many times the waves wind was strong, the waves were high and the water was cold. After exams a gala event was held - the ‘Water Show.’ Paddleboards, wash tubs, inflated tubes, canoes, rafts or sailboats were decorated - costumes were worn in keeping with a theme.”
