Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan Nominated for an Emerald Award

And the nominees are…

The Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan 2018 is a finalist for an Emerald Award in the Water category. The Emerald Awards showcase those who raise the bar in addressing local, regional, and global environmental & climate issues. In doing so, a standard of excellence is set that inspires others in their own practices.

“Congratulations to all involved! This nomination is a wonderful acknowledgement of the community’s dedication to working together for a healthy lake, healthy watershed and healthy community,” says Catherine Peirce, Executive Director of the Pigeon Lake Watershed Association.

The Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan 2018 has the endorsement of the local municipalities, Alliance of Pigeon Lake Municipalities, Pigeon Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, Battle River Watershed Alliance, Alberta Lake Management Society, and Pigeon Lake Watershed Association with support from the Maskwacis Four Nation at the Pigeon Lake Indian Reserve 138A. Rollout of the Plan would not be possible without ongoing efforts by all of these stakeholders include the residents and countless volunteers who are contributing as healthy-lake stewards. “The Pigeon Lake Watershed Management Plan 2018 is a forum that brings people together around a shared vision of preserving and protecting Pigeon Lake. This nomination reflects the work, direction and results.” Michael Gaian, Director, Pigeon Lake Watershed Association.

As a finalist in the Water Category, the Plan has been included with two strong contenders— The WaterSHED North Saskatchewan River Monitoring Program, by Alberta Environment and Parks, EPCOR, the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance and the City of Edmonton; and The Bioengineering Demonstration and Education Project by the City of Calgary and Government of Alberta.

Winners will be announced at the 30th Annual Emerald Awards to be hosted virtually on June 1, 2021. Tickets to the event can be purchased online through the Alberta Emerald Foundation.
