1987 - Development of The Village at Pigeon Lake

Surrounding Pigeon Lake are three golf courses, a family fun park, numerous RV Parks, several Inns and Bed & Breakfasts, children’s playgrounds, public picnic areas, boat launch sites, preserved wetlands, forests and nature trails, eight youth and church group camps, two Farmers markets and the “Village at Pigeon Lake.”

“The Village” development was designed and built in 1987, as a unique beachside looking hamlet of shops and amenities, providing area residents with groceries, restaurants, bar, gas, pharmacy, clothing, banking, accommodation, liquor, a spa, hair salon, post office, car wash, collectables and a range of other services, facilities and seasonal celebrations.

An estimated 8000 people now live or seasonally visit this area of Pigeon Lake. This development was opposed by many residents due to the proximity to the lake and concern for overdevelopment of the area. Now, in 2022, there has been a new proposal to expand the area of ‘The Village’ by going even closer to Pigeon Lake and very close to Norris Creek with over hundreds of RV-style lots built. The ongoing environmental strain on the area is a cause for concern and the PLWA is very active in the review process for this proposed development.
